Tragic News

I'm sorry I haven't been able to post for awhile, nor will I be posting for probably another couple weeks, maybe less. Over the weekend, on Friday, my father passed away around 2 in the morning. I've been very preoccupied with preparations for the memorial service, keeping strong for my mom, and keeping strong for myself. The memorial service is this coming Saturday the 6th, so I most definitely will not be able to post until after that. I'm not even quite sure anyone reads this blog, but if you do, let me know. It will help motivate me to post again. Thank you for your understanding during this difficult time.

Sincerely,
Roxanne E.

Some Housekeeping..

First on the agenda: I'm having my boyfriend help me spiff up the blog, so it'll be easier on the eyes. If anyone can think of a creative slogan for a knitting blog that hasn't already been used, let me know! I'm open to ideas.

Secondly, I'm getting started on a decorative pillow for my father. As of late, he's been in the hospital with advanced kidney cancer. My parents live in NJ and I go to school in WV, so I hardly get to see them that often. My boyfriend and I are making a trip up there this coming weekend, so hopefully I can pull together this pillow in time. I got the pattern out of Maran Illustrated Knitting & Crocheting. I'm the only one on Ravelry that has added this pattern, so I hope it turns out well so I can take pictures to put up on there. I'm using a different yarn, but the same suggested needle, so I actually might make a gauge swatch before I begin (my very first one).

The striped hat I've been working on is coming along nicely. The only things I'm worried about are that I am schiesse/merde at finishing projects (i.e. sewing, weaving in yarn ends, etc..). If anyone could offer any advice?? I just bought Knitting in Plain English, which I hear is basically the knitting bible of our time, so hopefully that should help.

Finished Kerchief & Finger Knit Scarf

Just finished up a couple of projects I've been working on. One was the "Kitschy Kerchief" featured in Stitch 'N Bitch, by Debbie Stoller. The other was the "no needle finger knit scarf" I was talking about in my last post, which turned out better than expected! The pom poms look especially adorable, and I love the way it drapes around my neck.

The Jump Off

Well, I think I'll start off my knitting (& etc..) blog with an unconventional form of knitting I've discovered called finger knitting/no needle scarf knitting. Seriously, only need your fingers, yarn, and a pair of scissors to do this. The scarf turns out really adorable, especially if you put the pom poms on the end, and looks pretty artsy. Here's a couple examples of what your finished scarf would look like, from one of the tutorials I used.

Here are the two links I used for this project, the first one being a video tutorial, and the second one has step by step picture instructions. I'll post a picture once I've finished mine.
